I first got involved with the world of dogs when I got married and my husband already had a dog, Jack the Labrador. He was my baby. I used to have an office job but I realised as time moved on that I wanted to spend more time with dogs so I set up my own dog walking business and I quit my office position. I then got a German Shepherd and soon after that a Working Cocker Spaniel.
My first involvement in rescue was when I met Lesley Ford through Facebook. We were both members on another rescue site and we soon realised we lived very close to each other. Lesley introduced me to the plight of the Romanian dogs. It broke my heart and I just knew I had to do something, even a small thing, to try to raise awareness of the hell that the dogs are living in and how they are treated there.
I’ve got lots of my friends interested in the Bacau dogs’ plight and they donate and share the stories on their Facebook pages. Sharing their stories is vital to raise awareness of just how horrific it is out there.
I never intended to actually rescue one of the dogs from Bacau but then Rhett, a GSD cross, caught my eye and it was love. He arrived in June 2015 and I’ve never looked back. He’s just adorable and now loves life after the hell of the Public Shelter where he was starved and desperate to get out.
