I became involved in helping the dogs of Romania through my work with the UK-GSR. After being asked to help with some of the larger dogs in Romania I decided to visit the public shelter in Bacau to see the situation for myself. I first flew out in early 2014 and was truly horrified at what I found. I vowed to help these poor dogs and support those who, despite having very little themselves, dedicate their lives to save these dogs.
I named the organisation in memory of Sadie a German Shepherd I was helping to rehome and who died a sad and terrible death just before leaving for the UK
I set up a Facebook page to help raise funds and awareness and have been overwhelmed by the response. I joined forces with local and international volunteers and together we have been able to move dogs out of the hell hole that is the public shelter and into private shelters where they are treated with kindness and respect. We are able to provide food for those dogs who remain in the public shelter (despite receiving government funding the dogs are not feed regularly) and rescue strays from the streets. We pay veterinary fees to spay/neuter and treat injuries, and help prepare the dogs for re-homing.
I have big plans for 2017 including - a spay and neuter campaign which will see 3,000 dogs sterilised . In 2016 we achieved just over 2,000
