Spayathon

WHAT IS A SPAYATHON

A spayathon is a week long campaign of sterilisation, where members of the public are invited to bring owned and community dogs for free spay/neuter.  Our aim in 2016 was to reach approximately 1,000 dogs.  We are thrilled to report we smashed this target, with a total of 2,100 procedures.  This is fantastic considering we had absolutely no help from Bacau City Hall.

Our 3rd Spayathon is happening on 14th to 16th September.
Please help us to prevent more unwanted puppies.

SPAYATHON September 2017 What can you do?

In order to make this successful we will need to repeat the spayathon in September 2017 in Comanesti, as well as provide ongoing support.  Please donate to our spay programme: £20 will see a dog spayed and less puppies born to die.

Our second spayathon of the year is happening  26th to 28th May in Buhusi ..  We chose this location because the Mayor of Buhusi has asked us to help him with the stray dog problem on their streets.  These good people are very keen for Sadies to help them with a stray dog management programme, including spay and neuter of community dogs and owned dogs where the owners are unable to afford the surgery.  The Mayor kindly offered to help promote the programme and provide support with transport for owners and many locals did bring their own dogs.  There was also help with catching and bringing the community dogs for surgery.

SPAYATHON May 2017 What can you do?

In order to make this successful we will need to repeat the spayathon in May 2017 in Buhusi, as well as provide ongoing support.  Please donate to our spay programme: £20 will see a dog spayed and less puppies born to die.

SPAYATHON BUHUSI MARCH 2017

Last Friday we started our 4 day spay campaign in Buhusi. Here are the pictures from that fantastic day. So many to say thanks to. The vets from RAR/ ASNI , the volunteers from the UK and Romania. Andrea the vet who helped with micro chipping and the local help from City Hall. Huge thanks to Patti for the donation and making it all possible . Pictures of the lovely volunteers, the 50 dogs spayed and neutered and our fabulous vets . It a hard days work from 9-late in the evening but so worth it . Total spayed in March campaign was 160 dogs and a few cats.

Our spay and neuter campaigns have been such a success due to the partnership with our Dutch and Belgian colleagues, which I hope will continue this year.  We worked in Comanesti and around Bacau with Romania Animal Rescue, Dr Aurelian Stefan and his team.  We also used two local vets to sterilise for free in Bacau city.

Our New Year's resolution for 2017 is to carry out 3,000 effective and safe sterilisations using modern keyhole surgery.  We think this is very achievable and cannot stress how important it is to visibly reduce the numbers of stray dogs roaming the streets of Bacau.  This will be the most important activity we can do in 2017.

2017 Spayathons

We kicked off the New Year with a fundraiser, hoping to raise enough donations for 100 spay/neuters and we had an amazing offer from a supporter to pay for this spayathon. THANK YOU PATTIE!  It is truly a wonderful gift and brings so much hope.

Our first spayathon of the year was held between 17th and 20th March in Buhusi and Comanaesti in Bacau county.

The spayathon was held in conjunction with ASNI/RAR and the fabulous Nancy Janes and Aurelian Stefan and his team.  We sterilised 160 dogs ... and a few cats!  Now to get ready for our Spay for May campaign.
